If you’re self-conscious about your smile due to cracked, broken, decayed or worn teeth, we can bring back your healthy, natural-looking smile with crowns. A filling can restore a small defect in a tooth, but a crown is the most durable, strongest way to restore a tooth with extensive damage, front or back for the long term. With all the materials and techniques modern dentistry has to offer, crowns can be totally natural looking.
Additional benefits of crowns are correcting bite problems, closing spaces between teeth, changing the angulations of teeth, and they can be used to replace missing teeth permanently, as part of a bridge, or over an implant.

Do you want to Zoom!™?
The Zoom! In-Office Whitening System is a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure. It’s safe, effective and fast – very fast. In just over an hour, your teeth will be dramatically whiter. Zoom! Whitening is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results. The convenience of Zoom! in comparison to days of wearing trays and gradual whitening makes it the perfect choice for the busy individual.
Get ready to Zoom!
The Zoom! Whitening procedure is simple and painless. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. Then the proprietary Zoom! Whitening Gel is applied, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least six to ten shades whiter, sometimes more. A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. You will be amazed with the results! In most cases, your teeth will get even whiter the first few days after the procedure.
How Zoom! Works
The Zoom! Light-activated gel was developed after years of research by Discus Dental, the leaders in professional take-home tooth whitening. The gel is a scientifically formulated, pH balanced hydrogen peroxide that, when activated by the Zoom! light, gently penetrates the teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration. With proper care and an occasional touch-up at home, your whiter smile will sparkle for years.

Take Your Smile From Average to Dazzling
Many people desire a brighter, cleaner, more attractive smile, but have chipped, stained, discolored, unevenly spaced, or even slightly crooked front teeth. If this sounds like you, we will be glad to help evaluate your specific situation, listen to the exact changes you have in mind, and show you examples of the end result, before any treatment is performed.
Often, porcelain veneers can provide a completely improved and dazzling smile in just a few appointments.
The actual treatment usually involves only two visits. The number of pre-operative visits, to work out details to insure predictable results, depends on the complexity of your situation and the changes you desire. There usually is a follow up visit or two for final adjustments and polishing, and to review instructions for care of your new smile to insure it lasts years and years.

If you’re embarrassed about your smile because of decayed, disfigured or discolored teeth, you may be a good candidate for composite resins. A composite resin is mixture of microscopic ceramic and glass particles dispersed in a plastic resin that can be bonded to teeth. The material comes in a wide range of shades and can be molded and sculpted to create almost any shape or contour. The fact that the resin is bonded means a seal is formed to reduce the change of leakage, which is common with silver fillings.
Composite resins offer a non-invasive way to improve your smile, if you have any concerns about the appearance of your teeth, give us a call for an evaluation to see if bonding with composite resin will give you the smile you’ve always wanted, and the enhanced self-confidence that goes along with it.

So Much to Look Forward To!
Many people want to improve their smile, but hesitate because they have don’t know if the look they want can be accomplished. There are many aspects to making up a smile, and it can be hard, if not impossible for someone to clearly communicate what they see in their mind’s eye. That’s where cosmetic digital imaging comes into play. This technology allows us to create images of your mouth, as if the cosmetic procedures have been completed. We can then view these images together, and if necessary modify the image until it shows us exactly what you want.
Once we have completed a thorough exam and discussed your ‘smile’ goals, a treatment plan will be created. We can then produce images showing your current smile and projected changes. This allows you to see what you will look like after treatment. Images can also be printed, which you can take home and discuss with family and friends before any treatment is performed. With digital imaging your results are predictable.

Are you in desperate need of dental care, but too afraid to go to the dentist? Are you facing extensive treatment which you cannot fathom without being “out”? You are not alone. For our patients who need that extra help to relax, we offer both inhalation and oral sedation.
How it works
First, we always review your medical history to determine if you are a suitable candidate. Then depending on what level of sedation you require, we offer either Nitrous (laughing gas) sedation or Oral (valium like drugs) sedation.
Nitrous Sedation– Nitrous Oxide or “Laughing Gas” is one of the safest forms of sedation available and can take the anxiety out of most routine dental procedures and cleanings. Non-allergenic and non-irritating, most patients feel the onset effects within minutes and these effects are completely reversed within about 5 minutes of gas termination. At the end of the procedure, you can safely drive home or go to work.
Almost anyone can have nitrous oxide treatment. We can vary the depth of sedation depending on your level of anxiety. Most importantly, you will feel relaxed as we care for you. The laughing gas is administered through a simple rubber hood that rests on your nose providing a feeling of numbness, security, and warmth. At or near the end of your treatment, we will provide you with 100% oxygen so you will feel completely normal within 5-10 minutes. At that point, you are ready to leave the office independently.
Oral Sedation- If cleared by your MD, you are given a pill to take one hour prior to your dental appointment. You will need a companion to drive you to and from the dental office. The pill works quickly to create a relaxed state so you will be drowsy when you arrive. During treatment, your vital signs will be monitored while you are in a sleep-like state. You will be able to respond to any given commands or questions, but will not likely recall events while the drug is in effect. This is ideal for the dental phobic patient.
Beyond creating an optimal environment for you, sedation dentistry allows us to complete multiple treatments in one appointment. You can relax while we improve your smile.”

Dr. Shem-Tov remembers coming to North York Dental as a boy and being greeted by Leone’s warm smile and infectious optimism. Today she is still greeting long-time patients and brings her small town Alberta charm to new and old patients alike. Along with front-desk duties, she is responsible for any estimates that are sent to insurance companies and explaining complicated treatments to patients. She can be found, at local music venues, encouraging her husband who plays drums in his classic rock band, ‘The Whitehouse’.

Lilin is a doctor who moved to Canada some years ago. She decided to stay in healthcare and bring her knowledge and dedication to her new career as a hygienist. Lilin has recently completed a restorative dental hygiene course (RRDH). RRDH is an intensive one-year program offered only at two colleges in Ontario with limited seating. There are approximately 400 expanded duty dental hygienists in Canada! In this program, attention is given to technique in placement of white fillings, achieving a proper bite, and accurate anatomy of fillings. She can also take impressions of all kinds, including crowns. This is all in addition to her light touch and excellent level of care for your gums. We are lucky to have Lilin on our team!
